'Kolaveri Di' is a rage: 14 million hits and counting

The track from the Tamil film 3 has become an overnight sensation online. The Guide spoke to its young music director on why the track has created a buzz across the country

"Believe it or not, it was all impromptu, " says 21-year-old Anirudh Ravichander, music director of the superhit song, Why This Kolaveri Di for the Tamil movie 3.

The video, which was released on November 16 by Sony Music, already has 14 million hits and counting.

The song has (despite its lyrics claiming to be a 'flop song') already gone viral on YouTube and social networking sites, becoming one of the top trending topics on Twitter.

"I didn't expect it to become such a huge hit, " says the music director. So much so, even Amitabh Bachchan has tweeted about it: "Just heard Kolaveri after much talk on it... it's so original and catchy...congrats Dhanush and Aishwarya... love (sic)".

The debutant music director, who is fresh out of graduation college (he completed a BCom course from Loyola in Chennai), is lapping it all up. "I am on cloud nine, " he says.

But he isn't going overboard. "I have another nine songs to go and want to give them my best, " says Ravichander. The youngster is already getting many offers, including a few from Bollywood. But right now, 3 is his priority. "This (the movie project) is like my baby. I want to give it my complete attention, " he claims.

The song emerged, literally, out of the blue. The tune, claims Ravichander, came to him in five minutes flat. "The director (Aishwarya Dhanush) gave me the situation. Dhanush sir came after 10-15 minutes and started singing it, " he says. Dhanush gave the lyrics on the spot and since the casual usage of English gelled with the mood of the song, they decided to retain it for the entire song.

Incidentally, Ravichander had Dhanush in mind when he was composing the song. "He has a raw voice which would suit the song. He sounds like a common man, who enjoys singing. When he started singing, Why this kolaveri kolaveri kolaveri di? we knew we were on right track, " he says.

The tune was composed to make the song sound catchy. The lyrics fit the sequence in the movie in which a boy expresses his feelings about failing in love.

Sung in far-from-correct English with a heavy South Indian accent and everyday words like "holy cow", the video shows Shruti Hassan, Dhanush, Aishwarya Dhanush and Ravichander recording the song in a studio and having a great time doing it.

Apart from the heavy South Indian accent and the way the song is sung, there is nothing remarkable about the "Soup song" as it has come to be known. "It is funny because the lyrics have no meaning whatsoever. We had a ball while recording it, " recalls Ravichander.

The music is a blend of South Indian rhythm, with guitar and saxophone. "It is like a nursery rhyme, " adds Ravichander who till now had only composed music for short films.

'NTR Studio' Coming Soon

Reliable sources reveal that young hero NTR is going to come up with a state-of-the-art studio very soon and already the preparations for that has begun. It is heard that the studio has been named as ‘NTR Studio’. NTR’s father-in-law Narne Srinivasa Rao has few hundreds of acres land. He managed to get all those during the regime of Chandrababu Naidu as CM. Out of them, Narne gave few expensive areas of land as dowry to his son-in-law NTR. 

It is heard that NTR is thinking about coming up with ‘NTR Studio’ (named after his grandfather) at a site which is about 10-15 kms from hi-tech city. The size of the land is 25 acres. Sources also reveal that Junior wants to cater one full floor for his grandfather N T Rama Rao. This floor will comprise of stills from his movies, shields, photographs etc. Maybe his idea is to add his memorabilia in the future next to his grandfather’s.

Allu Arjun- Trivikram Movie 'Honey' Shelved

 

 

Allu Arjun's movie 'Honey', in the direction of Trivikarm is shelved as of now. As per reliable sources, Allu Arjun is going to wave green flag for Vasu Varma first but not Trivikram once he returns from Australia. That film is going to happen on Dil Raju's banner.

There is apparent cold water running between Trivikram and Allu Arjun and hence the project 'Honey' is not happening. Hence Trivikram is planning for other film now. Trivikram is worrying at his friends stating that he is not informed about Allu Arjun's shoulder surgery at all.

Meanwhile Allu Arjun negotiated Vasu Varma's project on phone and confirmed. Allu Arjun is willing to do Trivikram's film only after Vasu Varma's film and that too if time and mood permits!

Allu Aravind Afraid Of Lord Venkateshwara

Mega Producer Allu Aravind may come across as a puny guy but then he has the heart of a lion and nerves of steel. Given his shrewd strategic thinking and sharp business acumen, he has ruled the roost. However, it is heard that one of the thing he fears the most is God, especially Lord Venkateshwara.

Apparently, the heat was on to finalize the chairman for the prestigious TTD and Allu Aravind’s name was in hot contention (Kanumuri Bapiraju is the chosen one now). However, Allu declined to take up the role. He has reportedly shared with his close people that touching the property of Venkateshwara Swamy are always dangerous.

He added “if I get tempted and do some hanky panky in TTD dealings then it will ruin me forever. I don’t want this position.” But many are saying “Only a god fearing man like Allu Aravind should sit in the post. Otherwise, others will use it as business and spoil the entire system. Maybe justice would have happened if Allu Aravind was there. Hats off to Allu for this nature of his!!”

Rajamouli: 'Kajal Has No Scene Now'

 

 

Rajamouli, who made Kajal a top star with the film ‘Magadheera’ is now saying that she has no such scene to be on top now.
It seems that he considered her for placing beside Prabhas in the film ‘Vishwamitra’ that he planned to do. He did that only on the request of Prabhas. But after seeing her in a dud films like Veera and Dhada, Rajamouli decided to keep her away from consideration.

Well, some say that Rajamouli never considers the track record of hero or heroine to work with. His earlier example in placing Saloni in ‘Maryada Ramanna’ is a straight evidence for that.

No one knows, what made Rajamouli to develop negativism on Kajal but right now her career is in doldrums. She has to pin all her hopes on Puri’s ‘The Businessman’ now.

Mahesh Babu Warns Thaman!!

 

Usually Mahesh Babu is known as a cool customer and man of few words. However, it appears that all those barriers got broken and the serious side of Mahesh was seen recently.
The reason for that was one man and he is Thaman, the music director of Mahesh’s film ‘Dookudu’.

It is heard that recently, Mahesh called up Thaman on phone and warned him. This is due to the mixed talk on ‘Dookudu’ songs.
Mahesh reportedly said "Many are saying that except title song, item song the rest of the music is not up to the standards of you. Fans are calling and saying ''music is not up to expectations''. I did not expect this word from my fans. Though I liked, it’s the likeability of fans that matters. I praised you in audio release function as I liked the songs (may be for listening many times during shoot), personally I feel that music is hit when pulls the interest of audience in first listening itself. Please concentrate and give good music for ‘The Businessman’ at least. I don’t want to listen to such comments again”

Saying this, Mahesh reportedly cut the line. Sources say this gave a rude awakening to Thaman who has been riding high with his tunes. Let us hope he brings out better tunes up to the caliber of Thaman for ‘The Businessman’.

Nagarjuna Manhandles Lawrence I.C.W Anuskha

Sources say that Nagarjuna man handled Lawrence (in connection with Anushka).

Lawrence who was just a choreographer could become director only with the blessings of Nagarjuna. He made 'Mass' as his first film and that turned huge commercial hit. The success reached the head of Lawrence and he behaved arrogantly those days. Now again 'Kanchana' is a hit and Lawrence’s 'extraas' are seeing light again.

It is known that Anushka was first considered for the role of Lakshmi Rai in the film 'Kanchana'. Since Anushka felt that her role is not vital in the movie, she didn’t sign on agreement. Keeping this grudge in mind, Lawrence started showing his airs on her.

He is at present set to shoot the film 'Rebel' with Parbhas and Anushka where Anushka's character is being carved as a vamp. Not stopping at that he is taking 'advantage' on her with a desire to take her to 'comfort zone'. Hence Anushka is reportedly backed from the project.

This information has reached Nagarjuna although Anushka didn’t tell him directly. Nag called Lawrence to his place and blasted him with all creative 'boothulu'. It is said that he also man handled him in the fit of anger. Annapoorna Studios sources say that they have never seen Nag in such frightening mode.

Rajinikanth's next Movie is Sultan, Not Rana

Sultan - The Warrior is said to be with in both animation scenes and live and more interestingly Soundarya is planning to bring it out in 3D as well. Rajini will be seen in a new avatar as a warrior and also will be delivering some punch dialogues. The animation work will be done by Soundarya Rajinikanth's Ocher Studios.

The makers are planning to complete the film in a fast pace as it is been scheduled for an early 2012 release. The title of the film may go for a change and they are looking for suitable titles.

Sultan-The Warrior has a runtime of just 120 minutes. SFX whiz, Srinivas Mohan, who was associated with Rajini’s films such as Shivaji, Robot and soon to be started filming Rana, is also a part of Sultan-The Warrior.

Srinu Vaitla- Salman Khan Movie Confirmed

The film ‘Dookudu’ is yet to release. But it is creating sensation. Srinu Vaitla narrated the story of the film to Salman Khan and the star has agreed to do the same in Hindi without any second thought.
It is known that many Telugu films are going to Bollywood as remakes after proving success at box office. But this is something that happened much before the release.
It is in fact not difficult for Srinu Vaitla to impress Salman as he already has ‘Ready’ relation with him. The film is tentatively hitting the floors in October as per Mumbai sources.

Movie On Anna Hazare With Dilip Prabhawalkar

Ramgopal Varma is known to make the most of media’s sensational news and use it for his benefits. Now, it is heard that his focus has fallen on the hype about Anna Hazare and the movement in India. Buzz is that this has inspired him to come up with a movie, albeit in his own flavour.

Reports from Mumbai say that Ramu is roping in Dilip Prabhavalkar of ‘Munnabhai’ and ‘Sarkar Raj’ fame to do the lead role.

Talk from Ramu’s camp is that this is a satire on Anna Hazare. But then, the movie maker is known to give a mysterious touch at the climax for most of his movies. So now, the cine folks are waiting to see whether Ramu will show Anna in good light or any other shade. As such, close sources say he is least impressed with the Anna movement. So the coming days will give a clear picture on this project.

Kajal says no to Bollywood biggies

 

 

Ajay Devgn may have garnered a lot of eyeballs in Singham, what with his action scenes, but so has the film's leading lady Kajal Aggarwal.
After the success of the film, Aggarwal has been approached by filmmakers in Bollywood but the actress has turned every one of them down. According to sources, she has turned down offers by top directors and producers like Madhu Mantena, Vashu Bhagnani, Samir Karnik and Harry Baweja.
In fact, Mantena who made the blockbuster Ghajini, wanted to remake the 2009 Telugu hit Magadheera with Kajal. She also starred in the original Telugu version. Mantena wanted to cast Aggarwal opposite Hrithik Roshan. He is now looking for another actress.
Kajal -- who made her Bollywood debut with Karnik's Kyun...Ho Gaya Na (2004) after which she starred in a string of Southern hits -- has turned down the offers because she is concentrating on her two back-to-back South Indian films, in Tamil and Telugu.
Not divulging any details about the offers she has turned down, Aggarwal said, "I am currently shooting with Suriya in Chennai for the Tamil film, Maatraan. Then I will start work for Puri Jagannath's The Businessman in Telugu with Mahesh Babu (actor). I've received loads of offers in Hindi. But I haven't zeroed in on any."
She, however, is unfazed by the success of Singham. "People ask me how I feel about the success of Singham. I've experienced the same feeling after Magadheera, Darling and Mr Perfect in Telugu," she said matter-of-factly.

Mahesh Babu's Son Shocks Surprisingly

 

The film ‘Dookudu’ is yet to release but the dialogue ‘bhayaaniki meaning teliyani blood raa naadhi’ has become most popular among Mahesh Babu’s fans and film lovers on a whole due to trailer. It’s not just Mahesh’s fans, even Mahesh’s son has been reciting that. Here is the story.

An associate director working in ‘Dookudu’ team has arrived at Mahesh Babu’s residence to submit some dialogue papers. He was waiting at the lounge and meanwhile a black three feet tall dog has come out running. Mahesh Babu’s son Goutham Krishna chased it and caught. He was sitting on that and playing with its fur. The servant has come out shouting, “Babu! Adhi karusthundi, vadileyyi..bhayapadathaavu”. Then Goutham Krishna looked at servant seriously and said, “Bhayaniki meaninge teliyani blood raa naadhi”, emulating both his father and grand father.

The associate director witnessed this entire scene and got shocked at the talent of the little super star. He returned to the unit and shared his experience.

Heroine Afraid Of Mrs Mahesh Babu

The cine folks say that as much as they want to get close to Mahesh Babu, they are aware of the presence of one person, his wife Namrata. This is especially in the case of heroines and actresses who swoon over the prince whenever they are working with him or get a chance to interact with him.

Now, it is heard that one heroine has developed the jitters for Mrs Mahesh Babu. She is none other than Samantha. Well, Samantha is the leading lady for Mahesh in the new movie ‘Dookudu’ and unit members reveal that as much as she wanted to get friendly with Mahesh, the very thought of Namrata kept her miles away from him.

Already, the filmnagar folks reveal that Namrata has a reputation of giving straight warnings to heroines who try to get ‘friendly’ with Mahesh. Given the personality of her charming husband, it sure is a tough game to keep pretty girls from laying their hands on him. For now, it appears to be Samantha having few nightmares about Mrs Mahesh.
